Foundations in two faiths:
Why not leverage thousands of years of hard learned wisdom from both sides of the globe? Why not take the absolute best strategies for living well and apply them to your own life? Why not live a truly integrated life where your actions align with your beliefs. Why not choose to feel connected to others and the world around you?
The Binary is simplified belief system that combines the best of Christianity and Taoism. Christianity’s focus is on each person. We discard Christian teachings at our own peril. Losing the core teachings of Christianity would not only be disastrous for society as a whole, but personally as well.
Take the example of Christ. He had immense power. He literally had everything. Yet he surrendered it all, willingly. He gave it all up, not merely to show compassion for others, but to become compassion itself. He willingly suffered ridicule, and a terribly painful death to show others compassion is worth any cost. The connection we have with each other person to person is worth whatever suffering it takes to maintain it. He showed us our higher selves. If we choose to cast this truth aside, we lose ourselves. Unfortunately, in modern Christianity this core message of compassion, compassion for one’s self as well as others, is often overshadowed by dogma or doctrine.
Taoism’s focus on the moment is powerful, but dangerous without first having a foundational belief of compassion. However, together these two teachings show us the heights we can achieve as a person when we seek to raise others up. We merely have to let go of ourselves and our place in time. We must get out of our own way and get out of our own heads. We must allow ourselves the freedom to become who we were meant to be, so we can help others do the same. This is true compassion.

Striving for Potential
Binary sees meaning in the universe’s constant change. It seems that every part of the universe is striving to become something more than it is. From gas condensing into stars, to people challenging themselves to grow; everything is reaching towards it potential. It is important to note that everything in the universe is connected. So, every small step forward in any corner of the universe helps each of us too. The goal of every life is to seek its potential. We must follow the flow of the Tao, the rhythms of grace, or if you prefer, the guidance of the holy ghost. Help and comfort towards this goal seems to flow from the transcendent. Peace and contentment are found in the journey towards one’s own potential as long as we realize when we help other reach their potential, we are helping ourselves too.
Christianity views the problem of potential from the viewpoint of the self. A person is created in the image of God therefore has great potential to do good. Individuals are held back from their potential by their past failings. Offenses (sin) against themselves and others hold them back. The bible offers forgiveness as a solution to free oneself from the mental bonds of these offenses. It also seeks to help one reach their potential by seeking a connection with the transcendent. Additionally, it seeks to foster reaching one’s potential through synergy with others. Compassion and charity help lift others up who can then help lift you as well. Through mutual networks of support, we all benefit.
Taoism assumes that people are rational and focus on the self. It proposes setting both the self and reasoning aside to experience a fuller life by living in the eternal now. In doing so, you remain connected to everything and everyone around you. This allows you to avoid becoming lost in your thoughts. You avoid living within your own head. You avoid sleepwalking through life as a half-hearted participant. It allows you to be fully engaged in each moment and feel fully alive, content and at peace.
